San Francisco 49ers’ general manager, Trent Baalke, gets a three-year contract extension – NFL News
After a successful National Football League (NFL) season in which San Francisco 49ers finished with the title of National Football Conference (NFC) West champions and getting a shot at the NFC title, the impressed management has decided to give a three-year contract extension to general manager, Trent Baalke.
49ers’ chief executive officer (CEO), Jade York, announced on Friday, February 10, 2012, that Trent’s new contract will run through 2016 season.
The most notable achievement for Trent was his decision to appoint Jim Harbaugh as the franchise’s head coach.
Jim lifted 49ers, which had finished the previous season with six wins and 10 defeats, to winning 13 games in the regular season.
49ers beat New Orleans Saints in the playoffs to qualify for the NFC title matchup where New York Giants beat them.
However, the overall effort of the team and the management was lauded by nearly everyone. Harbaugh was also awarded the NFL coach of the year.
York said of Trent:
“Without question Trent has distinguished himself as the man to direct our football operations for years to come.”
He added:
“It gives me great pleasure to watch Trent and Jim work arm-in-arm with the common goal of leading the 49ers to championships.”
Trent joined 49ers in 2005 as Western Region Scout.
He was given the post of director of player personnel and was later promoted to the post of vice president of player personnel.
He was made general manager last year and now he is going to hold this post for a long time.
Trent thanked 49ers’ management, the players, scouts and especially coach Jim Harbaugh, after receiving the new contract.
He said:
“The success we experienced on the field was a direct result of their efforts.  It is a privilege to work for the 49ers organization, alongside this group, as we continue our pursuit of championships.”
On the same day, 49ers also promoted Gideon Yu to the post of the franchise’s president and co-owner.
With the latest development, it is evident that the management is satisfied with the present staff. Now it will be up to the players to display marvels on the field in the next season and bring more honour to the franchise.
