San Francisco 49ers have a championship team, says Vernon Davis – NFL News
After securing a playoff berth for the second straight season, San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, who has spent his entire seven-year career with the team, believes that they have a championship team.
49ers were nowhere near the top teams of the league a couple of years ago. The arrival of Jim Harbaugh as head coach changed the fortunes for them in the 2011 season that saw the 49ers qualifying for the playoffs after ending a long draught.
The 49ers also won National Football Conference (NFC) West and won playoff games to reach NFC championship game, which they lost to the eventual Super Bowl winners New York Giants.
This time around, the team has yet again proved that it has a quality talent. The 49ers have already qualified for the playoffs this season and a win over Seattle Seahawks in Week 16 would give them the NFC West title as well.
This has made Davis a very happy man. He has seen the team struggling on the field, but has also enjoyed the team’s surge since the last year. According to the details present on the team’s website, Davis said of the team:
“We started from zero and just kept building. We built something pretty unique. We built an empire and that’s what it’s about. In order to win championship games, you have to have a championship team. That’s what we have around here.”
The 49ers have already defeated the Seahawks once in the season. However, the Seahawks are a far better unit as compared to the one that faced San Francisco in Week 7.
After losing against the 49ers, the Seahawks have won five of their seven games and are on a three-game winning streak. 49ers veteran running back Frank Gore has acknowledged that the Seahawks are a completely different unit now. He said:
“In December you want to be the hot team. We know that if we get the win, we can win the division. They’ve been playing great. I think they’ve gotten better as a team each week since they played us.”
Gore added:
“We played a good team last week, now we’re playing another good team. We’ll be ready on Sunday.”
