San Francisco 49ers’ head coach, Jim Harbaugh, ready to get over the loss and move forward –NFL News
A day after the heartbreaking defeat in the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game against New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers’ head coach, Jim Harbaugh, said that he and the players were ready to get over the loss and move forward.
While addressing media at the 49ers’ headquarters on Monday, January 23, 2012, Jim took a glance at overall performance of the team in the National Football League (NFL) season and praised the players for reaching this far to become the second best team
of the NFC.
Jim, who has just finished his rookie coaching year, took over the head coaching job at San Francisco when the team had lost 10 games in the previous season.
His marvellous coaching abilities led the team to winning 13 games in the regular season and topping the NFC West division. Besides, the 49ers defeated New Orleans Saints in the playoff game to qualify for the championship game.
Jim was of the view that the players have performed remarkably well and said that he is proud of them.
“They stand toe-to-toe and fight every time they go out onto the field. It didn’t have the ending that we wanted. The football gods had a different ending in mind for this ball game. Be forever proud of our players and coaches the way they compete,” he said
of the players.
When the subject of wide receiver, Kyle Williams, was brought, the coach responded just like the other players did.
Williams fumbled on a punt return in the overtime which set up a game-deciding field goal for the Giants.
After the game, Williams came under the line of fire from many fans (some of them even called for killing him), but the teammates stood right behind him and did not put the blame of the loss on him.
When asked how he felt about the response of the players on the issue, Jim admired the team spirit and said that it was what he had expected of the players.
“It doesn’t surprise me. This is a class bunch of guys. It’s a class group. A class team. They have never been a finger-pointing group. To a man that I’ve talked to, everybody looks at themselves in the mirror first. Things sting as it relates to what we
could have done better.”
Jim also addressed a few other issues, but refrained from going into the details.
Regarding resigning quarterback, Alex Smith, he said that he had already expressed his desire for Alex to stay with the franchise.
Jim reflected to the season very positively and stayed optimistic throughout his conversation with the reporters. The 49ers will have an offseason and would certainly want to repeat the same heroics in the next season.
