San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh: We did not do enough against New York Giants – NFL News
A week before San Francisco 49ers’ Week 6 game against defending champion New York Giants, it had been expected that the 49ers would outclass Giants.
Even during the game, when Giants were dominant, the observers were assuming 49ers to retaliate and stage a comeback after going down.
However, nothing went the 49ers’ way last Sunday, and they were defeated stunningly by Giants.
Right after the game, 49ers head coach, Jim Harbaugh, who is into second year as head coach with the team, shared his thoughts on the loss and said that his team did not do enough on the field.
Giants were dominant throughout the game as 49ers struggled on offence and defence alike.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Harbaugh said of the defeat:
“We didn’t do enough. Put ourselves in a position we couldn’t come back from. More turnovers than we’re accustomed too. Plan wise, obviously it wasn’t the right one. And you try to figure out what the next one will be.”
49ers (4-2) are going to play their Week 7 game on Thursday night against Seattle Seahawks. Harbaugh has hoped that the team will play better against Seahawks. The 49ers head coach said:
“But yeah, tough loss for us but we have to bounce back fast. We have a game coming up Thursday night, and no time to hang the head. Got to bounce back.”
49ers made a good start to the game and took the lead in the first quarter by scoring a field goal. However, they were unable to provide any more scoring moves in the next three quarters in which Giants scored a total of 26 points.
49ers quarterback Alex Smith was picked off thrice, which is a grave cause of concern for the entire team because Smith is not renowned for throwing interceptions.
A week earlier he had sprained his finger, but the coach was not sure if the same problem had bothered the quarterback against Giants.
Whatever the reason is, 49ers will certainly have to thoroughly review their performance because the defeat has exposed many loopholes that can be utilised by other opponents during the rest of the season.
