San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh appreciates New York Giants QB Eli Manning – NFL News
New York Giants adopted a different approach when they defeated San Francisco 49ers in Week 6 game; they played smooth football, exerted pressure on 49ers offence and restricted them to scoring only a field goal.
On the offence, Giants played a sensible game. They did not rush into anything and allowed things to proceed in a planned manner.
The game was somewhat different for Giants quarterback Eli Manning as well. He capitalised on the momentum established by the defence without overdoing anything and handsomely led the offence to secure the victory.
Also, his guards were effective and did not allow any sack during the game. The credit for not being sacked also goes to Manning, who does not waste much time after collecting the ball following a snap and finds his receivers rather quickly and accurately.
Manning’s this trait has also impressed 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who has appreciated the Giants quarterback for being efficient. According to the details present on the team’s website, Harbaugh said of Manning a day after his team was defeated by the
defending champion:
“[Giants QB] Eli [Manning] did a nice job, he really did. He got the ball out quick. He threw some very accurate passes. He took advantage of some good opportunities. Again, statistically, yardage was pretty, fairly even. They did a better job capitalising
on their opportunities than we did.”
Unlike Manning, 49ers quarterback Alex Smith could not adjust into the game. His guards were also not able to provide him the due protection and the 49ers quarterback was sacked four times. 49ers also played with Smith’s backup Colin Kaepernick, who was
sacked twice.
In total, 49ers gave away six sacks, while Giants did not give any.
Harbaugh said of Giants:
“They played well. They’re a good football. They really, to their credit, they took advantage of opportunities. They made some big plays, not only the defensive line, but in the secondary as well and at the linebacker position, so that’s to their credit.”
49ers have a short week ahead now as they are going to take on their divisional opponent Seattle Seahawks in Week 7 game on Thursday night.
