San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh impressed with defence – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers’ defence made a huge contribution to lead the team to the playoffs and then the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game last season and it continues to impress the coaches during training session as well.
As 49ers trained on Friday, August 03, 2012, the defence dominated the offence, which is also looking very good this season.
Talking to media, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh praised the defensive unit’s performance. According to the details present on the team’s website, the head coach said when asked if the defence had dominated the training session:
“It did. It certainly did, about every which way it could be dominated. It was an outstanding day for our defence. Turnovers, pass rush, communication was great. The way they’re playing together is at a very high level, both units, and the young guys as
well, doing a fabulous job.”
He added:
“It’s been very competitive out here. It’s gone up, down. There’s been days where it’s been sideways. It’s been good, gotten a lot of competitive reps, a lot of situations. There’s no doubt the defence got the best of it today.”
The defence’s performance comes as an encouraging development for the team, but it also raises a few questions on the ability of the offence at the same time.
It is understandable that the 49ers’ offence was not as stronger as their defence last season, but things have changed a lot now.
49ers have made a few roster changes this offseason and added some good players including Randy Moss, Brandon Jacobs, Mario Manningham and others on the offensive line so it could complement the defence.
Although these are still early days at training camp, the offence must step up to show what it has got because there is no denying that the talent available on the roster is capable of outclassing many defensive units.
Meanwhile, Harbaugh also mentioned the performance of different offensive players and expressed satisfaction over it.
49ers are one of the Super Bowl contenders this year and they must not leave any loophole that might take them down during the season. The quality of their defence will be further ascertained during their first game of the season as the 49ers take on the
explosive Green Bay Packers.
