San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh sees improvement in defence – NFL News
Although San Francisco 49ers’ defence was one of the best in the league last year, they have further improved their performance this season.
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is of the view that he has not seen any player in the defensive line who is not trying hard.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Harbaugh praised the efforts of his defence in the first half of the season and said of his players’ performance:
“You see upward trajectory really in all their play. I don’t see anybody that’s falling off, or decreasing in their effort or their performance on the field. And then how they’re playing together as a group, all those things, we’re seeing good improvement
and high level.”
49ers have only lost two games this season and their defence has played a total of four games in which it has given away less than 10 points. This also includes a whitewash against New York Jets in Week 4.
49ers have remarkably controlled their opponents’ passing and rushing game on the field and that is why it is difficult for even the best offensive lines to penetrate their defence.
However, exceptions are always there. It should not be forgotten that Minnesota Vikings and defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants have beaten 49ers this season in a relatively one-sided affair.
Harbaugh has set a few goals for his team for the season’s second half that will shape up the structure for this year’s playoffs. Discussing his plans, Harbaugh said that the main focus is to prevent opponents from getting scoring moves.
He said of not allowing points:
“That’s a team goal, not just a defensive goal because other things factor into that, special teams, offence, field position.”
Harbaugh added:
“Number one is keep the other team from scoring, as few points as possible. And also getting the ball back for the offence, whether it’s three-and-outs, drive stoppages at some point and turnovers.”
Coming off their bye, 49ers are going to start their second half of the season by facing St. Louis Rams in Week 10 game at Candlestick Park.
