San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh thinking of Super Bowl title – NFL News
When Jim Harbaugh had joined the San Francisco 49ers no one knew what he was bringing in.
When the 49ers took the field in the 2001 season, the first-year coach led the team so impressively that it became one of the best of that season.
49ers qualified for the playoffs last year after ending a long drought and after winning their first postseason game they were defeated by the New York Giants in the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game. In the regular season, the 49ers had
won 13 games and lost only three.
Harbaugh was subsequently declared the Coach of the Year and as the coach prepares his team for the 2012 season many are saying that 49ers are one of the Super Bowl contenders.
They have every reason to think so because 49ers have a great quarterback in Alex Smith who rediscovered himself under Harbaugh’s leadership last year.
Furthermore, 49ers are coming into the 2012 season carrying a threatening offensive unit. They struggled slightly on offence last year and relied more on defence for their victories, but this season it is expected to be different.
49ers have Randy Moss, Brandon Jacobs, Mario Manningham, Frank Gore and other such players to support the offence, but Harbaugh still thinks that it is still too early to predict that the team would win the Super Bowl.
Although Harbaugh has high expectations of his team, he does not want the players to lose focus, and wants to take one game at a time.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Harbaugh said:
“I don’t know about that, or any of the prognostications. I can tell you this, our schedule has got our attention. It’s got all the fellas’ attention. Starting with the opener, and the entirety of the schedule.”
He added:
“By the same token, I don’t think that there are a lot of teams that are going to be happy to see us on their schedule either. So, we want to work hard and not disappoint, and fate’s in our hands to make that happen. So, like I said, we’ll just take our
expectations day by day and see if we can’t get a little better tomorrow than we were today.”
