San Francisco 49ers kick off training camp – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers kicked off their training camp on Friday, July 27, 2012 with all the players and coaches upbeat about the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
The level of passion and excitement is certainly higher than what it was at this time last year. After the lockout, the players officially trained with their then first-year coach Jim Harbaugh for the first time.
They were not the best team as their previous performances had not been that good. However, the 49ers startled everyone during the 2011 season and they emerged the best unit of the National Football Conference (NFC) West. They qualified for the playoffs and were eventually defeated in the NFC championship game.
As the players join training camp this year, they have high hopes and spirits. The 49ers are among the Super Bowl contenders and that is why the level of energy and commitment is much more this time.
However, Harbaugh does not want to talk about Super Bowl at present. 49ers have to cut their roster down to 53 players before the start of the season and the coach is focusing on evaluation of his players.
49ers have 90 players participating in training camp and their performance during the next few weeks will determine their future course.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Harbaugh admitted that they have got huge expectations and big dreams, but the coach maintained that the players must not get distracted. He said:
“We have great expectations. We’ve got big hopes. We’ve got big dreams. As it relates to expectations though, they are to go out and have a great practice this afternoon. We expect a great practice. And then, great expectations for tonight’s meetings.”
Harbaugh did not respond to the comment of the 49ers being the Super Bowl favourites and said that the only important thing that matters at the moment is that the players give their best shot. He said:
“The other things are irrelevant at this point, other than you’ve got to find something to believe in, and then go to work at that. And we believe that what puts us in the best possible position, the most advantageous position to win, is preparation and hard work. So we’ll believe in that and go to work.”
