San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis proud of consistency – NFL News
After being selected for the prestigious Pro Bowl squad for fifth consecutive year, San Francisco 49ers’ linebacker, Patrick Willis, has expressed delight over his selection and said that he is proud of being consistent.
Willis is the cream of the crop for the 49ers. He started his professional career with the franchise in 2007 and is being regularly selected for the Pro Bowl squad since that year.
He commented on his performance:
“I take a lot of pride in being consistent. I’ve always felt as a player, consistency is what we’re measured by. Anybody can have a good game. Anybody can have a good year. It’s about being a pro. It’s about consistently trying to raise your game to another
level that hasn’t been seen by others.”
Willis thanked his coaches and teammates for providing support and said that his goal is to get better every day.
His selection in the Pro Bowl squad has become more special as he will be accompanied by seven of his teammates. They include safety, Dashon Goldson, cornerback, Carlos Rogers, kicker, David Akers, tackle, Joe Staley, defensive tackle, Justin Smith, punter,
Andy Lee and running back, Frank Gore.
The linebacker told that he felt great when coach, Jim Harbaugh, announced in the locker room that eight of the 49ers were selected to represent the National Football Conference (NFC) in the Pro Bowl.
“It was a great feeling. In my years so far of going over there, one other time we had a large group of guys selected,” he said.
Willis is a regular starter for the 49ers. Starting from the first year, when he recorded 174 tackles and 4.0 sacks, he has 688 total tackles and 17.0 sacks to his name.
This season, however, he has missed three games owing to hamstring injury. In 12 games, he has 93 tackles and 2.0 sacks to his credit.
This is the first time in his career that he has missed three games in a season. However, he is recovering fast and might be able to play the regular season-finale against St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
The 49ers have not decided yet whether Willis will play against the Rams.
They have already reached the playoffs by topping the NFC West division. They already have 12 victories and three defeats under their belt, but another win will earn them a chance to enter the postseason as the league's second seed team. Not only that, they
will also be able to secure a first-week bye in the playoffs.
