San Francisco 49ers lose Madieu Williams to Washington Redskins, re-sign Brett Swain – NFL News
The San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, lost their chances of re-signing safety, Madieu Williams, who recently became a free agent as the player decided to join the Washington Redskins, who are already hiring a lot of players.
The 49ers had an opportunity of bringing the player back off the open market, but now Redskins have capitalised on the opportunity and signed him.
Williams started his professional National Football League (NFL) career in 2004 with Cincinnati Bengals. He played all the games in of his rookie year and started 13 out of 16 games of the regular season in which he recorded a total of 103 tackles.
However, he received an injury in the next season and was limited to playing only four games in which he registered 23 tackles.
He got back in rhythm in the next season and made a total of 88 tackles while starting all the 16 games of the regular season.
In his final year with Bengals, he played and started 13 games of the regular season and managed 74 tackles.
In 2008, he joined the Minnesota Vikings after signing a six-year, $33 million deal. Owing to a neck injury, he was unable to play the early games of his first season with Vikings, but he got back on the field later and played nine games in which he recorded
42 tackles.
In 2009-10 season, he started and played all the 16 games for the Vikings and made 74 tackles. In the next year, he registered a total of 75 tackles.
He was released in July 2011 and joined the 49ers after a month of his release.
With 49ers, he played 15 games in the last season and started three of them. He could post a total of only nine tackles.
Now he has joined the Redskins and is hoping to play as a regular starter with them.
On the other hand, 49ers have also re-signed wide receiver, Brett Swain.
Swain started his professional NFL career with the Green Bay Packers in 2009. He played two seasons with Packers and joined the 49ers in 2011.
With 49ers, he was only active for five games in the last season in which he only got one start. He will face even more competition after being re-signed as the 49ers have also recently signed Mario Manningham and another receiver.
