San Francisco 49ers officially announce hiring of Brandon Jacobs – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers have officially announced giving a one-year contract to former New York Giants’ running back, Brandon Jacobs.
Jacobs’ appointment was reported earlier as well, but the official announcement from the player and the team was yet to be made.
Before Jacobs, another Giants’ player, wide receiver, Mario Manningham, also left the team to join the 49ers.
Jacobs parted ways with the Giants, following unsuccessful negotiations with the organisation, which wanted to bring Jacobs back on a reduced salary.
Jacobs also reportedly showed interest in restructuring his contract, but they pay-cut offered by Giants was not acceptable to the player.
49ers capitalised on the opportunity and signed the player for one year. 49ers’ general manager, Trent Baalke, while reflecting on Jacobs’ career appreciated his skills and talent and hoped that the player would fit well into the team.
He said:
“The 49ers are pleased to add a player with Brandon’s wealth of experience and talent. He has been productive throughout his career, and provides our offence a different dimension. We look forward to incorporating Brandon into our system.”
On the other hand, Jacobs also seems to be pleased with his decision to join 49ers.
In the last National Football League (NFL) season, 49ers stunned the spectators by winning the National Football Conference (NFC) West division title to enter the playoffs first time after the year 2002.
49ers lost against Giants in the NFC championship game, but the team received applause from nearly every critic.
While sharing his experience of playing against 49ers’ Jacobs said that it was a challenging task to face the 49ers, who, the player said, have the ability to win the championship in the next season.
“I’ve played against the 49ers year in, year out, and it’s always a great challenge. It’s a great football team, great ownership and a team that’s on its way up to a championship.”
He added:
“It’s a good football team and really close. And I felt wanted. I felt they really wanted me around and I was excited about it.”
There is no doubt that 49ers were one of the best teams in the last season, but their true abilities will be proven if they will be able to repeat the heroics in the next season.
