San Francisco 49ers overtake New York Giants for 27-20 win in Week 10 game – NFL Recap
San Francisco 49ers defeated the visiting New York Giants 27-20 in their Week 10 game at Candlestick Park on Sunday, 13th November.
It had been close call for the San Francisco 49ers who could not be sure of a victory till the last seconds of the game. It was only after Justin Smith managed to restrict the Giants from a fourth countdown that the 49ers were
able to seal a victory over the Giants. The game had come close enough to a tie but Smith succeeded in putting down Eli Manning’s pass in the last seconds of the game. The 49ers finally got a chance to celebrate as they edged to a 27-20 win and improved to
8-1.
Head Coach Jim Harbaugh was clearly a happy man as his team managed to extend their winning streak to seven games to equal with the Green Bay Packers for the highest number of wins. San Francisco is still to lose a game having
last lost to Dallas in a close fought encounter of 27-24 on Sept. 18. Harbaugh refused to take any credit for the win saying that the players deserved all the credit.
Justin Smith, Carlos Rogers, Vernon Davis, Kendall Hunter and David Akers all saved the day for the 49ers. Rogers managed one of his best plays in his career by making two interceptions. The second interception proved decisive
in the game coming at a time when the Giants desperately needed a countdown to tie the game.
Manning kept with his last desperate attempts as New York trailed behind the 49ers until a smack by Smith to foil Manning’s pass in the last seconds ended all these hopes.
"It was a big win for us. As we continue to win we're getting on a bigger stage, and that's exactly what we want, we want to continue to climb and get on bigger stages," quarterback Alex Smith said proud of beating a team he termed
as a really good one.
Vernon Davis completed a 31-yard touchdown after moving past Giant’s safety Kenny Phillips in the fourth quarter and Kendall Hunter managed a 27-yard touchdown. While David Akers scored four field goals of 36, 52, 39 and 28-yards.
Eli Manning did all he could to prevent a defeat. He managed two touchdowns on his passes. One was a 13-yard pass to Mario Manningham and the other a 32 yard pass to Hakeem Nicks on which touchdowns were scored.
New York Head Coach Tom Coughlin was very disappointed. Commenting on the match, he said, "I thought we were in perfect control. I thought we would get there, score and send it into overtime and win it in overtime. We've done well
in those situations and I expected to do well again." Tom said.
The Giants had managed to take a lead by 13-12 in the third quarter with a 13-yard touchdown by Manningham. But it was then that San Francisco offence struck back. Davis and Hunter scored touchdowns soon while Manning could manage
just a 32-yard touchdown pass to Hakeem Nicks having been intercepted by Carlos Roger for the second time. It was on this second interception that Hunter scored a 27 yards touchdown.
49ers had managed this win despite the absence of their running back Frank Gore who was off the field with a knee injury. While the Giants had their Leg Back Michael Boley off the field in the second half due to a hamstring injury.
