San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith feeling better – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, who was forced out of Week 10 game against St. Louis Rams owing to a concussion, has said that he is feeling better, but there has been no official word regarding his participation in Week 11 game against Chicago
Bears.
Smith talked to the media on Wednesday for the first time since receiving the injury. He has been cleared for non-contact drills and his progress leading up to the game day will determine his chances against Bears.
According to the details present on 49ers’ website, Smith told the reporters:
“I feel good.”
He added:
“Nothing has been decided. It’s a long process. It’s up to the doctors. I’m just doing what they’re telling me and moving along.”
According to the National Football League (NFL) rules, a player with a concussion has to pass some physical tests and receive clearance from an independent neurologist before taking the field again.
Smith has reportedly received the green signal from a neurologist and it is expected that he might get fully fit for the game against Bears.
The quarterback has not yet been cleared for practice with contact. He hopes to receive the clearance soon. Smith said:
“Contact, obviously, is the final straw. But I was able to go out there today. I had the black jersey on, which is a little redundant seeing as how we don't get hit in practice. But I feel good out there.”
Smith received a couple of hits before going down and eventually realising that he had suffered a serious injury. He played through it for some time, but later left the field in his and the team’s interest.
Meanwhile, Bears are also dealing with a troubling situation as their quarterback Jay Cutler was also sidelined due to a concussion in Week 10 game against Houston Texans.
Bears are currently ranked among the best teams of this season and their encounter against 49ers will certainly be very thrilling.
Both teams are hoping to have their respective quarterbacks back from the injury for this game. Meanwhile, 49ers running back Frank Gore has also hoped for Cutler to play against 49ers and said:
“Hopefully Cutler plays. It’ll be a good game.”
