San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith speaks of ups and downs – NFL News
For San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, his entire National Football League (NFL) career has been a rollercoaster ride.
He struggled at the beginning of his career and when it was thought that the team would part ways with the quarterback, he combined well with then first-year coach Jim Harbaugh to have a breakout season last year.
Entering this season, Smith was under pressure of high expectations and he managed to deal with it by performing impressively and even had a record-breaking game.
Week 4 and 5 games were extraordinary for the 49ers, who scored a total of 79 points in those games while conceding only three. They whitewashed New York Jets (34-0) and outclassed Buffalo Bills (45-3) before taking on defending champions New York Giants.
Against Giants, 49ers were a mess as Smith struggled with his accuracy and gave away three interceptions. 49ers lost that game (26-3) and had to prepare for a Thursday night game against Seattle Seahawks.
After the defeat against Giants, the 49ers were under a lot of pressure, but they managed to beat Seahawks, taking the sole lead in National Football Conference (NFC) West, for the first time this season.
A lot has happened for Smith and the 49ers just in the first seven weeks of the season and with nine more games to play for them nobody knows what will come ahead.
The last few weeks have been tough for Smith as well because the quarterback had to work really hard after the Giants’ loss, and even though he sent an interception against Seahawks, he was happy to get the win.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Smith said of ups and downs in the NFL:
“That’s what it is, it’s the ups and downs. You have to be able to ride them out. Really within the building, within the locker room you got to. You can’t have those ups and downs. I know you guys like to write about them and make a big deal about it. You
have to move on to the next opponent and get ready. Couple weeks ago you break records and last week, it wasn’t good at all offensively. Today, you know, we ran the ball really well. It wasn’t a pass game but we got it done.”
