San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick: Be Smart with the ball – NFL News
On getting his third straight start, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick got plenty of limelight because this time he had been preferred over Alex Smith.
On the game day, the youngster did play well, but certainly could not justify the team’s decision to retain him at starting position.
Colin failed to score even a single point, while he also gave away an opportunity for the St. Louis Rams’ to get back in the game.
In the third quarter of Week 13 loss against the Rams, Colin was sacked in his own end zone, resulting in two points for St. Louis. In the next quarter, the quarterback did not throw an accurate pass to his receiver and allowed the Rams to score on a fumble
return.
According to the details present on the team’s website, this is what Colin learned from the game:
“Be smart with the ball. I gave up the points on the scoreboard for the Rams. That’s 100 percent my fault.”
Colin finished with completing 21 of his 32 passes for 208 yards, while he also gained 84 rushing yards during the game. Only a score was missing from his otherwise good looking record sheet for the game.
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who had decided to start with Colin, was still appreciative of the rookie. He said after the defeat:
“It was a tough one. We’re going to have to bounce back quickly. It was a football fight and we did not win.”
At 8-3-1, the National Football Conference (NFC) West leaders are now going to play their next game against Miami Dolphins. Colin’s failure might allow Smith to get the starting role again, but Harbaugh has not yet confirmed anything and is up for giving
Colin another chance. When asked who would start in the next game, the 49ers head coach said:
“Right now, I feel it’ll be the same next week. I’m proud of Kap. He did some things under heat and duress, gave our team a chance to win.”
A win could have strengthened 49ers’ position, but now they still have to deal with the late season adversity. Harbaugh said of the situation:
“It shows what you’re made of – how you handle adversity.”
