San Francisco 49ers’ rookie Joe Looney enjoying offseason despite being injured – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers’ guard, Joe Looney, has not been able to step on the field to train with his new teammates, but he is still enjoying the current offseason in doing whatever he can do.
49ers’ fourth-round pick in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, Looney, suffered a injury during the Senior Bowl earlier this year and will require some time to recover completely.
49ers were aware of the player’s injury before the draft but they still selected him, hoping that he would recover before the training camp that will take place in July before the preseason games.
At the moment, Looney is taking part in the organised team activities (OTAs), but not physically. Although he watches from the sidelines his friends training with the coaches, his participation is restricted to learning the playbook and asking questions
about the team’s playing style.
Looney is a bit dejected for not being able to train physically with other players, but he is certainly enjoying doing whatever he is allowed to do.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, he said of not being able to take the field:
“It’s tough not being able to be out there running around with my friends. But I’m taking it all in, learning and asking guys questions when I don’t understand something. I’m definitely enjoying it.”
Although Looney can play at different positions being an offensive lineman, he prefers playing at the position of guard as the 49ers selected him for that position.
However, if the coaches ask him to move to tackle or any other position, he is not reluctant to do that either.
He maintained that his main responsibility will be to execute the play he is assigned by the coaches in the best possible way.
He said:
“On any line, you have a lot of responsibility. The coaches have put a great deal of planning into what plays they want to run so we’re just trying to execute them the best we can.”
Although the team has not given an exact timeline regarding the player’s recovery, it is assumed that there is no need to worry in Looney’s case.
