San Francisco 49ers’ rookies ready and excited for minicamp – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers’ rookies are set to get the exposure of National Football League (NFL) life as they prepare for the team’s three-day minicamp starting from Friday, May 11, 2012.
All rookies are said to be ready and excited for the camp.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, all of them visited the team’s facility on Thursday to collect their equipments and later talked to media representatives.
“I wanted to be here for my teammates,” said the team’s first-round pick, wide receiver, A. J. Jenkins, who will miss his graduation to attend the minicamp.
He added:
“I figured I could walk any time. I wanted to get in my playbook. I wanted to be around the team and the coaches. It was a sacrifice I had to make.”
49ers selected seven players during the 2012 draft and later added a few undrafted agents on their roster. All the rookies will participate in the minicamp expect those who had their educational commitments.
When asked to share his feelings about turning pro and playing for the 49ers, the team’s fourth-round pick, guard, Joe Looney, said he was excited and looking forward to train under head coach, Jim Harbaugh, who led the team impressively last season as a
first-year coach.
Looney said:
“I’m just happy to be here. I’m ready to compete and I’m excited Coach Jim Harbaugh has given me this opportunity to come play for San Francisco.”
These rookies will not be able to train with the veterans during the minicamp which is being set up exclusively for the rookies.
However, the young players will be able to join the senior members of the team within the next two weeks in the offseason strength programme.
Besides, all the players will train together during the organised team activities (OTAs) and training camp next month before the start of preseason games.
Some of the rookies are also going to compete for the starting role in the upcoming season, but it is too soon to predict who would start next season.
However, 49ers’ second-round pick, running back, LaMichael James, is aiming to build a strong impression.
He said:
“I think first impressions go a long way… It’s going to take time and I know that. I’m willing to work hard. I’m going to give 100-percent effort and that’s all you can expect from me right now.”
