San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs “going to shut up and keep working” – NFL News
Running back Brandon Jacobs has seen a lot of ups and downs in his National Football League (NFL) career and the valuable experience seems to be guiding him now.
Jacobs, who won a couple of Super Bowl championships with New York Giants, deserted them this year to join San Francisco 49ers.
The running back suffered an injury during the offseason and has not yet played any game in the regular season.
49ers have so far played five games and as they prepare to face Jacobs’ former team this weekend, it is not confirmed if the running back will be included in the squad.
Asserting that he is fit, Jacobs has said that he could have played earlier as well. However, the team management did not think that way and he was made to watch the games from sidelines.
According to USA Today, Jacobs seems a bit frustrated for not getting playing time, but he is not up for protesting. He said:
"I don't know what's what. But I'm hanging in there, I'm working every day, doing what I have to do. Let's say I'm just working and doing what I have to do and that's that.”
He added:
"I've learned over the years when you open your mouth and say certain things, it hurts you, so I'm just going to shut up and keep working."
If the management does not play him this Sunday, the running back will be disappointed. He said:
“It would disappoint me a lot. But like I said, it's not my call."
Just like Jacobs, wide receiver Mario Manningham also parted ways with Giants earlier this year to join 49ers. The receiver has been getting playing opportunities in almost every game and this could add to Jacobs’ worries.
However, it was made clear earlier and is understood this time as well that in presence of veteran running back Frank Gore, Jacobs might not suit up more often.
Gore is the franchise’s leading rusher and the 49ers will certainly not replace him. However, playing time could be shared.
The team management has not yet confirmed if it is planning on playing Jacobs against Giants.
