San Francisco 49ers safety Dashon Goldson: Football is the most important thing to me – NFL News
Although the San Francisco 49ers did not give a long-term deal to safety Dashon Goldson, the player agreed to play the 2012 season under the franchise tag and when he reported to training camp on Monday, August 06, 2012, his professionalism was appreciated
by everyone including his teammates and coaches.
Goldson had earlier made it clear that he would not let any contract matter distract him and affect his performance and now he has reiterated that this game is very valuable for him. According to the details present on the team’s website, Goldson said:
“I’m a team-player, this is where I want to be. Football is the most important thing to me, and my teammates, I owe it to them. That’s handled. I’m glad to be back here and get this started.”
Meanwhile, Goldson also shared his views on the team’s situation and the changes it has made this offseason.
The 49ers were very strong on the defence last season, but their offence lacked strength. This offseason they have acquired many players to strengthen their offensive unit and Goldson is also expecting the competition to get tougher for everyone in the days
to come.
He said of the offence:
“They’ve got a lot of new faces, guys playing new positions. I think the competition will definitely heat up a little more as they get accustomed to what’s going on.”
Goldson, a five-year veteran, is coming off a season in which he recorded his career-high six interceptions. He got a total of 67 tackles in the last regular season.
The 49ers were pretty strong in the red zone defence last year and they have reportedly further strengthened the department this offseason. Goldson said of the 49ers’ red zone defence:
“We know that red zone plays a big factor in football games.”
He added:
“We’ve had the upper hand for the simple fact that all of us came back on defence and we know what we’re doing.”
49ers are entering the 2012 season, hoping to win the National Football League (NFL) title, and the professional attitude of players like Goldson is certainly going to instil positive energy in the locker room.
