San Francisco 49ers set to host Buffalo Bills – NFL Preview
After a whitewash against New York Jets in Week 4, San Francisco 49ers are set to record another feat as they host Buffalo Bills for Week 5 game on Sunday, October 07, 2012, at Candlestick Park.
Bills, on the other hand, are still trying to recover from the beating they received in the final half of Week 4 game against New England Patriots.
Bills (2-2) had a 14-point lead in the third quarter against Patriots, but they still lost the game as New England got 45 points in the last two quarters.
Bills defence was badly exposed in the final half and if they are unable to improve, they stand no chance of beating the 49ers.
49ers have a very strong defence, as evident from their last week’s victory, and if Bills struggle to score against San Francisco they might not win the game.
So, Bills have to improve on offence as well as defence if they want to give 49ers their second defeat of the season.
Bills seem ready to give tough challenge to 49ers and forget their last week’s defeat. Their head coach Chan Gailey has urged the players to focus on the job in hand. Gailey said of his players:
“You give them a 24-hour rule and hope they get their mind ready for the next game. You never know, but you hope you’ve got the right kind of people that understand that our destiny is in our hands. Now, you’ve got to go do something about it.”
Bills are ranked third in American Football Conference (AFC) East, which is led by Patriots. Their performance in the first four games indicates that they have struggled against good quality offence.
However, their true skills on offence have also not been tested yet and the game against 49ers will certainly bring the best out of Bills offence if they are seeking victory.
On the other hand, 49ers are at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) West after three victories and one defeat, and since NFC West leaders Arizona Cardinals have been defeated in their Week 5 game, 49ers can take the lead in the division by
defeating Bills.
That, however, is not going to be an easy task because Bills have an element of surprise in them and given that 49ers’ only defeat of the season has come against relatively weaker opponents (Minnesota Vikings), possibility of every outcome is on the cards.
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said of Bills:
“Statistically a very good football team. Explosive team on both sides of the ball. This will be the best defensive line that we’ve played so far this year. And solid defence, again, very aggressive. Can make things happen.”
He said of Bills offence:
“You see the explosion from the passing game. Ability to put up points, and generate those big numbers.”
