San Francisco 49ers sign Randy Moss for the next season – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers and the 35-year-old veteran wide receiver, Randy Moss, who sat out of the National Football League (NFL) last season, agreed to a one-year contract on Monday, March 12, 2012.
49ers’ general manager, Trent Baalke, officially announced the appointment and said:
“We are pleased to add a player with Randy’s wealth of experience to our receiving corps. Randy’s productivity over the course of his career speaks for itself. We look forward to integrating him into our system.”
Moss also worked out for the team on Monday and spent a 15-minute session with head coach, Jim Harbaugh, who threw passes to the player.
Moss started his professional NFL career in 1998 after being drafted by Minnesota Vikings on a four-year contract.
He played seven seasons with Vikings before being traded to Oakland Raiders where he played for two seasons and later joined New England Patriots.
During the 2010-11 regular season, Moss was traded to Vikings, but he was waived by the management following his criticism on Vikings’ head coach.
Moss was claimed by Tennessee Titans and was not given a contract extension after the season.
Last year, Moss’ agent claimed that the player had decided to retire from the sport, but last month, he announced his comeback and expressed his desire of playing more football.
Moss was reportedly in contact with two more teams of the league, but he preferred 49ers over them.
Talking to media after agreeing to terms with 49ers, Moss hoped for playing good game and said that he would give his best shot to all the challenges he would face. He said:
“I accept the challenge to get back into this league and still play at a high level. Like I said, whatever my role’s going to be, I just want to go out there and be productive.”
He added:
“I don’t want to let them down. I just want to come and get back to what I do, and that’s getting out there playing football and stretching the field.”
Moss is unarguably one of the best wide receivers in the league, but it is yet to be known how his performance will be especially after sitting out for one season. Besides, age factor can also hamper his progress.
