San Francisco 49ers start three-day rookie minicamp – NFL News
As many as seven players who were signed during the 2012 National Football League (NFL) Draft, more than 10 players who were signed as undrafted free agents later and some other players reported at San Francisco 49ers’ three-day rookie minicamp on Friday,
May 11, 2012.
The players were supervised by a number of trainers and coaching staff led by 49ers’ head coach, Jim Harbaugh.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, the first day was very fruitful and the coach was satisfied at the end of the day with the performance of all the players.
However, he was a bit concerned about body fitness of some players and said that some of them were out of shape.
The three-day minicamp will allow the players to learn the playbook and adapt to the playing conditions as much as possible. They are not going to work out with the veterans during the camp, but some of them would be able to join the seniors from next week.
Still, those who would join the seniors will not be allowed to train with them aggressively at the moment.
While talking to media, Harbaugh mentioned that the players were out of shape and that there was a need to get them in proper shape as soon as possible.
Harbaugh said:
"Out of shape, that's the bad news. Good news is that it's a very talented group of those young receivers. You could tell that right away. But the bad news is we've got to get them in shape. I don't know exactly what all these guys have been doing in the
last six months."
When asked what he was trying to see in the players during the three-day minicamp, Harbaugh said he was looking to identify talented players who would have a number of skills.
The head coach commented:
“Creative destruction. Who that guy is. Who that newcomer is, that new start-up guy that’s going to be more motivated, going to be talented, going to be hungrier, going to be a harder worker. And somebody that’s going to come in here and kind of upset a
position that’s already established on this team.”
Harbaugh also stressed on maintaining high level of fitness and said that the rookies need to work really hard to stay in proper shape throughout the year.
