San Francisco 49ers suspend running back Brandon Jacobs for three games – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers suspended their running back Brandon Jacobs due to disciplinary issues on Monday.
Jacobs was found posting on a social networking website about getting limited playing time. He tweeted recently:
"On this team rotting away."
Jacobs’ three-game suspension was announced after the press conference of 49ers’ head coach Jim Harbaugh. He did not comment on Jacobs’ issue at that moment.
The team did not want to give any explanation on their decision and this issue.
According to Harbaugh, Jacobs was appealing his Fifth Amendment right.
Jacobs posted on Twitter on Monday after knowing about his season-ending suspension:
"Thank you all for all your support, I am doing wonderful it's not a big deal things happen, I am strong enough to get through this, again thank all of you for your support. #IWILLBEBACK."
Jacobs joined the 49ers earlier this year after parting ways with the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants, who selected him in the 2005 draft. He played 110 games in seven seasons with the Giants.
Jacobs maintained that he wants to focus only his game and not anything else. The player commented:
"I don't understand why people are angry at me because I wanna do what I am paid to do, I am a competitive person, I think people should be mad if I didn't wanna play.”
49ers running back Frank Gore has been performing well through the season. He has rushed 211 times for 1,035 yards and scored seven touchdowns.
Kendall Hunter is also available this season. With the combination of Gore, Hunter and Anthony Dixon, the running back position seems to be in the safe hands.
This is why Jacobs has not received enough playing time. However, that should not have been his concern as he knew while joining the 49ers that his role would be limited. Now, it seems, the player has different views. He said:
"This is by far the worst year I ever had, I'll tell you like I told plenty others."
