San Francisco 49ers’ tight end, Delanie Walker, practises on Thursday again – NFL News Update
San Francisco 49ers’ tight end, Delanie Walker, showed signs of a speedy recovery from the jaw injury, when he appeared in the second straight practice session on Thursday, January, 19, 2012.
Walker, who had broken his jaw during a game against Seattle Seahawks in the regular season of the National Football League (NFL), also took part in Wednesday’s practice session.
However, he was wearing a face shield and was not allowed to take any hit.
His second straight day of training has brightened his chances of playing the National Football Conference (NFC) championship final against New York Giants on Sunday at the Candlestick Park.
Walker talked to reporters before Thursday’s practice and said that he was feeling well after the first one.
"I didn't do too much, so I won't say I was rusty", Walker said. "I feel like I was good. Everybody said I looked faster and that I looked like I was over-hyper. Because you get back on the field, you try to do everything full speed".
Walker has been playing for the 49ers since 2006 since he was drafted by the franchise. He has played 15 games this season while starting seven and has 19 receptions for 198 yards with three touchdowns to his name.
Despite his participation in the training sessions, Walkers’ inclusion in the line-up against the Giants is still dependent on the green signal from his doctor.
49ers’ coach, Jim Harbaugh, had already clarified that the management would only monitor Walkers’ performance and the final announcement would be made after the doctor’s reports.
“You see how he responds to today’s work, today’s treatment. We’ll know more tomorrow, more the next day. Ultimately, it will be in the doctor’s hands”, Harbaugh said.
Meanwhile, Walker has expressed determination to play against the Giants on Sunday. He asserted that if the management and the doctor allowed him to make the decision, he would take up the field at once.
"I want to help my team out, and this is a big game, and I feel like if I'm out there maybe I can help out with the offence", Walker added.
The winner of the Giants-49ers game will qualify for the Super Bowl mega event, no wonder Walker is desperate to play the game, but he should also realise that fitness comes first.
