San Francisco 49ers’ tight end Nate Byham hopeful of rejoining the squad next season – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers’ tight end, Nate Byham, who missed the last National Football League (NFL) season owing to a knee injury and is still recovering from it, has expressed hopes of rejoining the squad in the 2012 season.
Byham, 23, was selected in sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft. In his rookie season, he played 14 games while starting three.
However, he hurt his knee during a training camp before the start of the last season and was eventually forced out of the competition.
Although he has been doing rehabs and light workout, Byham is still not hundred percent fit. However, he is hopeful that he would be running at full strength before the start of the upcoming season.
He is also participating in the team’s offseason strength programme, but his participation is restricted to doing light workouts under the guidance of the team’s medical staff.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, he is excited to join the teammates and said:
“It’s good to be back playing again with my teammates, really.”
49ers’ offensive coordinator, Greg Roman, has introduced a new strategy for the offensive line and all the tight ends, halfbacks and full backs have got a major role to play in it.
49ers are particularly focusing on improving their offence this season as they were quite remarkable and sturdy on defence last year, but struggled to score more points.
Byham is excited to know that the team is focusing on strengthening its offence and the player also sees his role in the team’s success next season.
He said:
“It’s definitely exciting watching the tight end, H-back and fullback positions grow here. You sort of need to be a jack-of-all-trades. If you’re going to be a fullback or a tight end here, you have to do everything in this offence.”
Byham’s knee is still covered with supportive brace, but he believes that is not going to hamper his recovery progress. He even went on to say that he did not find any need of covering his knee.
He said:
“I’m working my way out of it. It’s there for support right now, but I feel like I don’t even need it.”
Byham is certainly ambitious about the next season, but he will only be able to play if the team’s doctors give him the green signal.
