San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver A.J. Jenkins: Word can’t describe my feelings – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers’ first-round pick in 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, wide receiver, A.J. Jenkins, while expressing excitement about getting an opportunity to play for 49ers, has said that it is impossible for him to describe his feelings in
words.
Jenkins, who will join the team’s squad to participate in its training camp this summer, visited 49ers’ headquarter on Friday, April 27, and met with team officials including wide receiver coach, John Morton.
Jenkins had already met with Morton and other officials during his pre-draft visit to the team’s facility, but it was the first time that he arrived at the facility as a 49er.
According to the details posted on the team’s official website, Jenkins said after arriving:
“It’s a dream come true. A kid growing up in Jacksonville, Fla., from Terry Parker High School, now playing for San Francisco – that’s a dream. Words can’t really describe that feeling.”
Jenkins was unable to control his excitement, but that did not overshadow the fact that he will have to compete hard to earn playing time on the field.
The receiver also acknowledged that he was well aware of the competition in the team and said that he would try his best to live up to the expectations.
Jenkins said:
“I know the position. I’ll be around some great athletes and some great players. I’m just trying to compete.”
At the team’s headquarters, Jenkins was handed number 17 jersey by 49ers’ general manager’ Trent Baalke, and head coach, Jim Harbaugh.
While recalling the time when he viewed Jenkins during the NFL Scouting Combine, Harbaugh highlighted the player’s achievements and congratulated him on becoming a part of the team.
Harbaugh pointed out at Jenkins’ achievements during the last four months and said:
“He played in two All-Star games, East-West, Senior Bowl, the combine, he’s done his own personal workout at Illinois where he probably had 8-10 teams. He even had a workout at 7:30 on a Sunday morning for a team. He’s not afraid of competition. He’s not
afraid to work. Great humility.”
Jenkins will join the team after getting done with his final examination at the University of Illinois. He is expected to graduate on May 13.
