San Francisco Giants: 2012 Major League Baseball post-season review – MLB Feature
What an amazing 2012 Major League Baseball post-season the San Francisco Giants had. It was the ultimate dream season for the Giants as their players all took charge and put in top notch performances night after night. The icing on the cake for the Giants
was winning the World Series title.
The most significant aspect of the Giants’ 2012 post-season was the fact that many players like Pablo Sandoval, Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain and Buster Posey all put in tremendous performances and guided the team to significant victories. The key to the post-season
for any team is to win and continue to do as long as you can to advance to the next stage. That is what the Giants did repeatedly.
In essence the Giants did not know when to quit. Their ‘never say die’ attitude played a huge part in their come from behind victories in the Division Series against Cincinnati and Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Giants managed to
survive their treacherous voyage in the post-season to make it all the way to the World Series against the Detroit Tigers.
Many baseball experts will agree that the Giants as a whole are a great team and should never be underestimated, but their performance in the post-season was something quite memorable. The ability to come from behind and win seems to be a trademark for the
Giants. It seems when the chips are down the team rallies together and starts to fight back effectively.
Looking at players like Pablo Sandoval, who managed to hit three home-runs in Game 1 of the World Series against the mighty Detroit Tigers, you can start to see a definite trend in the difference between the Giants regular and post-season style. The Giants
just seem to ramp up their performances and the true skill of their players seems to come out in the open when they find themselves with their backs against the wall.
Although many did put the San Francisco Giants in the same breath with teams like the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals most were not expecting such a magnificent performance by the team in the post-season.
The Giants’ bullpen, rotation and line-up just seemed to work together perfectly. The team dug deep and they were rewarded with the ultimate prize in baseball, the World Series Championship.
Brilliant pitching performance by Barry Zito and Tim Lincecum provided the Giants with a solid foundation on the mound. Marco Scutaro and Buster Posey also managed to step it up a notch and put in some good performances to help the team achieve some great
victories. Playing like a team was the only way the Giants were going to survive six eliminate games and come out on top.
Facing the Detroit Tigers in the World Series was a dream for the fans. Both teams with their heavy hitting and offensive prowess was going to be a ‘clash of the titans’ for most of us. However, it seemed that the Giants knew exactly what they had to do
and that was to ride their wave of winning momentum that they were carrying throughout the playoffs.
In the end, the Giants managed to shut-out the Tigers and dominate the World Series. Lifting the trophy to a dream season, it will be exciting to see if the Giants can repeat their tremendous performance in the upcoming 2013 MLB regular season.
