San Francisco Giants' Roberto Kelly to stay out until recovery from concussion - MLB Update
San Francisco Giants’ first base coach Roberto Kelly will be staying out from the games until positive news surfaces about his recovery from the concussion, which he suffered when his head was struck by a liner from the catcher Buster Posey during the practice
session.
For the Giants, it will be source of concern that their first base coach is not available while the National League Championship Series is underway against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Hitting instructor, Joe Lefebvre will be carrying out the job of Kelly for as long as he is absent. Kelly, right now, is going through treatment. As soon as he feels comfortable, he will be discharged to rejoin the Giants.
Kelly will be disappointed for not being the part of such high profile matches.
Every first base coach keeps a variety of plans in mind for different matches that he unleashes when the required circumstances emerge in the field.
Similarly Kelly will have devised various strategies with regard to positioning outfielders during the games against the Cardinals. In-fact, it can be expected that he has prepared a complete roadmap of actions to tackle the Cardinals, in particular.
Keeping this in view, it can be apprehended that the makeshift attempt of putting Lefebvre in his role will not produce desired results.
Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy has stated that due to pain in his head, Kelly is finding it difficult to sleep through the night.
Bochy appears to be focused on upcoming matches and making sure the Giants do not lose sight of the real objective of winning, regardless of injuries to the players and the officials.
"Roberto will not be on the field. He's got a concussion," Bochy said. "I don't see him being out there at least these two games, if not longer. He's at home, he's resting well [but] he didn't sleep much last night. He hasn't come in yet. Dave Groeschner,
our trainer, and I were hoping he could come in so they could check him out again."
Ideally, the Giants will like to have Kelly in the team at the earliest. Unfortunately, how many days he takes for recovery remains to be seen.
