San Francisco Giants' pitcher Tim Lincecum asking $21.5 million in salary arbitration
The San Francisco Giants are currently facing a rather dodgy situation as their top starting pitcher Tim Lincecum is asking too much money in salary arbitration.
Lincecum has asked for a whopping $21.5 million in arbitration while the Giants offered $17 million to end this dispute.
Tim Lincecum is in his last year of his contract and to extend his relationship with the Giants, his agent advised he should be demanding that much money which truly represents his worth in the league and more importantly in the Giants' roster.
Bobby Evans, Giants' vice president of baseball operations, commented on Lincecum’s recent new arbitration salary for the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Evans said, “I'm overall optimistic that we'll find common ground without a hearing room. It's a process that begins long before today in terms of conversations about possible deals that work for both sides. That process has continued in a mutual fashion. We're looking at different player contracts that give us an idea where we think Tim should be. There is not ever a player that's exactly like the one you have. Ultimately there is only one guy that looks just like him. Obviously the revenue that has been generated by our ownership here makes the payroll level we have possible.”
Lincecum, who is considered one of the best pitchers in the current Giants roster, earned $13.1 million last season completing a two-year deal worth total $23.2 million. Later, in February 2010, Lincecum had agreed to a $23 million two-year contract.
Over the past four years, Lincecum has been fairly compensated for his extraordinary talent. Lincecum too has never disappointed with his performance as he has achieved a 2.98 ERA with 69-41 win-loss record, 1127 strike-outs and 1.19 WHIP.
His last season’s performance was also consistent where he went 2.74 ERA along with 13-14 win-loss record, 220 strike-outs and 1.21 WHIP.
Comparing his stats to the salary he has demanded from the Giants’ franchise, experts believe, Lincecum is somewhat in a good position to get this deal. However, the next few days will be critical as Lincecum and the Giants appear in-front of an MLB panel to discuss their arbitration issues.
