San Francisco Giants' right fielder Hunter Pence expected to play in 2013 as well – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants are planning to bring back the right fielder Hunter Pence for the next Major League Baseball season.
Hunter, who is currently eligible to earn $13.8 million in arbitration but the Giants' management do not want to go for any complexities and are willing to give him another contract which will probably ensure San Francisco’s smooth sailing into another season.
Though this is not yet confirmed but many sources do claim that Giants' management will officially announce the potential deal in the coming days or so.
"Pence is going to be coming back, We think there are some things he can do to fix what went wrong last year. We like the player. We made a big trade to get him, and he's going to be a Giant next year," said San Francisco Giants' General Manager Sabean at the general managers' meetings in Palm Springs where he explained in detail about Pence and his potential deal.
He added, “This was his second Tommy John, and if anyone could defy the odds, it would be him, But he's a long way from being at full strength, which means he's a long way from being cleared medically. It's wait-and-see. Until I get more medical information, we're not going near the subject."
Hunter is a talented player for the Giants since this recent past season. He joined the Giants after spending almost one season with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Before playing for the Phillies, the right fielder played almost four years with the Houston Astros.
Playing in the Giants’ roster, the five-year Major League veteran finished this season with .253 hitting average along with 24 home-runs, 104 RBIs and .319 OBP.
Meanwhile his career .285 hitting average along with 138 home-runs, 516 RBIs and .339 OBP also makes him good role player in the league.
According to several experts, this deal, if happens, both sides will be getting benefit from it. Giants want an appropriate depth in the outfield while Pence and his agent are looking for a long term contract with any leading team in the league.
