San Francisco Giants’ Brian Wilson recovering from oblique muscle injury – MLB Update
The San Francisco Giants are relieved to see their top closer, Brian Wilson, in good knock as the maestro threw an impressive session on Friday. The practice that will continue in Scottsdale on Saturday will help the ace star get back to fitness. He told
the reporters recently that he feels nothing wrong with his strained left side and is progressing well towards full recovery.
Pitching Coach Dave Righetti has said the same, but the club is still urging the player to not take things too easy so early. The Giants’ Javier Lopez, who took part in a special workout session also urged his fellow team-mate to be cautious.
"Obviously, Opening Day is a special time for everyone," Lopez said. "I don't think that, when it comes down to it, I don't think anybody wants him to rush back just to be part of the Opening Day roster, knowing that we depend on him so much during the year.
I think his health is first and foremost right now. And I think we have enough arms in the 'pen that, if it comes down to it, we could cover however many weeks or days."
Wilson and the reporters did not touch the topic of making a come-back for the Opening day, but it is generally understood that there is a level of unpredictability involved in the case of oblique injuries. Due to that fact, he has been reluctant to talk
about his playing status. The only thing he could guarantee to the fans was that he will be coming in everyday to put his best efforts to work on staying healthy.
With Wilson doubtful for a relief role on Opening Day, the San Francisco Giants have a lot to think about. Their predicament is fuelled by the fact that most of the clubs in the Major League Baseball National League West division are aiming to put the Giants
to the sword, as being the World Series Champions is not easy. Manager Bruce Bochy can now only hope his players are good enough to put wins on the table.
