San Francisco Giants’ Cody Ross named NLCS MVP
San Francisco Giants outfielder Cody Ross has been named the National League Championship Series most valuable player after the Giants defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in game six, advancing to the World Series.
Ross launched three home runs against the Phillies in six games and helped his team on to an incredible upset victory and a berth in the World Series. Ross started the series with a bang by knocking two jacks off Phillies’ ace Roy Halladay in game one and
then adding to the total with a solo shot off game two starter Roy Oswalt.
Ross has been the surprise of the post-season for the Giants, as he came to San Francisco off the waiver wire. Ross was placed on waivers by the Florida Marlins and claimed by the Giants with only 33 games left in the season. The 29-year-old had to battle
for time in the field for the remainder of the year and only notched three home runs during his regular season stint with San Francisco. Fortunately, the outfielder was lucky enough to be named the starter for the National League Divisional Series against
the Atlanta Braves. Ross hammered a two-run shot in the clinching game, propelling his team to the NLCS.
Ross has been Mr. October for the Giants thus far, leading the post-season with five go-ahead RBIs. Moreover, his six extra base hits put him second all time in the category, behind only the Braves Javier Lopez. In addition, Ross also had the highest slugging
percentage in NLCS history, checking in at .950.
Ross was very appreciative of the opportunity the Giants gave him when they took him off waivers.
“I can’t thank the Giants enough for bringing me over and giving me a chance to be a part of this,” said the New Mexico native.
So far in the post-season Ross has managed four home runs, eight RBIs and a .324 batting average.
