San Francisco Giants Jose Guillen linked to HGH
The New York Times has reported that San Francisco Giants outfielder Jose Guillen has been linked to shipments of human growth hormones.
Several unidentified lawyers stated that Guillen’s wife was said to have received shipments of performance enhancing drugs in the Bay Area.
Guillen has been left off the Giants play-off roster for all three series this season, which was said to be linked to a neck injury. However, sources have confirmed that the Giants were told by Major League
Baseball to remove Guillen from the roster, while they determined the exact nature of the investigation.
Though he'd been slumping towards the end of the season, it was still a surprise when he was left off the Giants' roster for the National League Division Series against the Atlanta Braves. The 34-year-old
had started 42 games for the club after coming over from the Kansas City Royals near the end of the season.
The Giants also did not place starting pitcher Barry Zito on their play-off roster, but Zito has been in attendance for the majority of the post-season. Conversely, Guillen has not been around the team
since being taken off roster.
The outfielder has been linked to performance enhancing drugs before when the San Francisco Chronicle reported that in 2007 that the native of the Dominican Republic had allegedly purchased $19,000 worth
of human growth hormones. Guillen was suspended for 15 days by the MLB after the report surfaced.
The decision to take Guillen out of the line-up helped the Giants in the end as the veteran was replace by outfielder Cody Ross, who has been on fire in the post-season. The 30-year-old has been a spark
plug in the Giants’ offence and has already hit four home runs in the post-season. The New Mexico native was also named the National League Championship Series Most Valuable Players.
Split between the Royals and Giants Guillen managed a .258 batting-average, 15 home runs and 77 RBIs.
