San Francisco Giants’ Melky Cabrera wins 2012 All-Star MVP honours – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants’ outfielder Melky Cabrera has won the 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award for his tremendous performance on his three at-bats as he scored two runs on two hits as well as two RBIs.
His contribution single headedly paved solid ground for the National League who went on to oust the American League 8-0.
"I didn't come to win an MVP. The same opportunity that Kansas City gave me last year is the same opportunity that San Francisco is giving me every day to showcase my talent. I'm just very thankful for the fans that voted for me to come here," Cabrera said after winning the 2012 All-Star MVP.
Cabrera was voted late from the Giants to play this year’s big All-Star game while now he has proved his game and his true star studded calibre.
He performed exceptionally and justified his All-Star selection. Hitting a single in the very first inning, he later hit a a two-run homer to pitcher Matt Harrison as the National League reached a comfortable eight run lead in the bottom of the fourth.
The game was played in Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium, a former home field of Cabrera.
Last year Cabrera played for Kansas City Royals while coming here again made him slightly emotional.
"When I was here in Kansas City, the fans treated me very well. I would hope that when I'm introduced that they welcome me just like Giants fans do," said Cabrera for his former franchise.
His former team-mates were also happy to see him playing well with another franchise.
“Melky is the same hitter he was last year, We were the ones who gave him an opportunity here, and he ran with it." said Kansas City designated hitter Billy Butler who was also selected All-Star played alongside with Cabrera.
Cabrera, who finished his first half of the season by maintaining his .353 hitting average along with eight homers, 44 RBIs and .391 OBP, certainly achieved another big honour in his seven-year career as he is now the MVP for the 2012 All-Star Game.
