San Francisco Giants’ Miguel Tejada goes to 15-day disabled list – MLB News
A lower abdominal strain forced the San Francisco Giants to place their infielder Miguel Tejada on the 15-day disabled list in a move that will certainly be a setback for the team. The decision was taken prior to the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers
on Tuesday.
While the Giants were able to comfortably score a 5-0 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the mishap happened during the game that resulted in the Miguel Tejada’s injury. Tejada, in an attempt to field a ground ball, ended up injuring himself.
While there were apparently no traces of his being injured, he was soon replaced by Brandon Crawford. The team manager, Bruce Bochy, did not express any worry over the nature of the injury, but it turned out to be serious.
While his being consigned to the 15-days disabled list is certainly not good news, neither for him nor for the team, the San Francisco Giants apparently have numerous options available at their disposal to replace the infielder.
From Emmanuel Burriss to Mike Fontenot and Jeff Keppinger, add to it Crawford himself, the San Francisco Giants could switch to anyone to replace him. It certainly remains debatable whether they could prove to be the adequate substitute for the player.
Having played 82 games this season, the 37-year-old Giants’ infielder has remained 302 at bats, scoring 28 runs with 73 hits to his credit, making his average .242 and .334 SLG with .609 OPS.
The veteran with 14 years experience to his credit, he has played 2109 games with 8258 at-bats, having held a record of 304 home-runs with 1282 RBIs. The star player has a career .286 average with .794 OPS.
San Francisco Giants did not have a very commendable start this season even though they were the MLB champions of last year. However, as the season proceeded, the Giants reasserted themselves with a thorough overhaul of their strategy.
Trailing behind in the start of the season, the Giants – however, now stand in far better position. The team is now sixth in the MLB ranking with 57 wins to their credit, leading the Western Division, leaving the Arizona Diamondbacks down with 52 wins.
The San Francisco Giants apparently have no challenge to their Western Division dominance, they – nevertheless, have to be on guard when it comes to the Diamondbacks’ ability to bounce back.
With Tejada in the disabled-list, Crawford is expected to put up a good show so as to keep the momentum going at a time when the Giants need a march forward, not backwards in this crucial stage.
Only time will tell how the injury to Tejada will affect the performance of the team.
