San Francisco Giants’ Pat Burrell’s career likely coming to an end – MLB News
The former World Series Champions, San Francisco Giants’ Pat Burrell’s career finally has reached an ending point, as reported by a major newspaper in San Francisco.
According to the paper, Burrell’s career might have ended after this season because of constant foot problems for the last few years. Newspaper quoted late in the season statement, in which he commented that he will not come back to play until he has a full
recovery. As the condition is still severe on his side, 35-year-old stated that he will have to make a final decision now.
"I have not decided yet, but I don't think I can play anymore," Burrell said. "It hurts me to say that."
Burrell had faced trouble even in the start of this last season. He first lost his left-field position and then batted a career low .230 with only seven home-runs in 92 games. He could not appear in most of the season due to a severe foot injury, which now
may end his career.
Pat joined the San Francisco Giants before the start of the 2010 season when he came into the list of the players, the Tampa Bay Rays labelled as castoffs and misfits.
Burrell started his Major League career in 1998 with the Philadelphia Phillies. The National League Eastern franchise hired the right-hander as Number one overall draft pick and held him for eleven accumulated years, in Minor and Majors, until 2008. Burrell
then moved to Tampa Bay Rays and could survive only one year before he faced termination.
Over his 12 year career, Burrell hit .253 with 976 RBIs and 292 home-runs in 1640 games. During his tenure, two teams won the World Series Championship. San Francisco Giants won in 2010 and Philadelphia Phillies crowned the title in 2008.
Burrell showed his loyalty with the San Francisco Giants, coming back even in the Minor League position. He spent little time with Triple-A Frenso before the Giants called him on June 4 for a big league game. He played .266 with 52 RBIs and 18 home-runs
in his 96 outings for the club.
Giants were the former World Series Champions but they could not prove themselves as real challengers and went out of the season losing 76 outings.
