San Francisco Giants: Regular season results – MLB July 2011
With an impressive 47-36 win loss record at the end of June, things were looking very bright for Bruce Bochy and his men. The Giants were hoping for another strong period of thirty days to get to the top of Wild Card standings. Although San Francisco Giants
had a very shaky start to their regular season campaign, they had managed to get things back on track with great determination and fighting abilities as the season progressed.
In their first three match series in the month of July 2011, the Giants looked in supreme touch. Against the inform Detroit Tigers, the defending World Series Champions adopted a very aggressive approach. Despite making a number of unforced errors, the Giants
were able to pull off a sensational 4-3 win in a competitive opening encounter. Looking to secure their first series victory of the month, the Giants completely demolished the Tigers in game two to secure an impressive 2-0 series win.
Pablo Sandoval and Brandon Crawford were absolutely brilliant for the Giants as they both homered in a five run first innings, allowing the Giants to take complete control over the contest. Miguel Tejada had a match winning grand slam in another five run
innings to lift the Giants to a memorable 15-3 victory.
Tigers’ manager Tim Leyland was very disappointed with the result of the match and he expressed his frustration in a post match interview. "It was pretty ugly," Leyland said.
"Three of our last five starting performances haven't been good," Leyland said. "Really not acceptable."
The Giants failed to continue their impressive form in their next four match series against San Diego Padres, losing the first two games to let their opponents take a vital 2-0 lead in the series. However, Bruce Bochy was still confident of making a comeback
with strong performances in last two games. The Giants clinched a hard fought 6-5 win third game to keep the series alive. In the fourth and final game, Barry Zito won his third straight start and he allowed only one run and four hits to let his side level
the series at 2-2.
"More than anything it's the confidence he's going out there with," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "I think he's got a better perspective on baseball in general. He's just getting back to going out there having fun and competing and not putting that added
pressure on himself."
The Giants came back from 1-0 down to beat the New York Mets 2-1 in their next three match series, which improved their win-loss record to 52-40. With series victories over San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies,
they ended the month strongly.
