San Francisco Giants: Regular season results – MLB June 2011
After achieving a decent 29-25 win-loss record at the end of May, San Francisco Giants were hoping to strengthen their position in the Wild Card standings with consistent performances in the month of June 2011 as well.
The Giants displayed some high quality baseball in a four match series against the powerful St. Louis Cardinals, winning three out of four games to secure their first series victory of the month. In game three, Nate Schierholtz scored a tying single and
he struck-out two in the ninth inning to guide the Giants to a well deserved 7-5 win.
"It was a pretty good game of gamesmanship," Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy joked. "I was just hoping it wouldn't be too long before he got back out there.
Leading 2-1 in the series, Bruce Bochy and his men were looking to end the series on a high note to improve their win-loss record even further. The defending Champions, Giants were absolutely unstoppable in the fourth and final game as they floored their
rivals 12-7 to win the series 3-1.
Aubrey Huff smashed three home-runs and he also matched his career best with six RBIs to take his side to an impressive win.
"It's a tremendous day," manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's a day he'll never forget and a big day for us."
"When Huffie gets going, he can carry the team. He did it last year," said Freddy Sanchez, who had a homer and four RBIs. "He's getting that confidence back and his swing is back.”
Looking to continue their incredible run in the Major League, the Giants adopted a very aggressive approach in their next three match series against the Colorado Rockies. Outplaying the Rockies in almost all departments of the game, the Giants brushed aside
the opposition in game one to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Although they were unable to cross the finish line in game two, the Giants ended the series strongly to win their second series of the month.
With momentum on their side, the Giants showed great character, determination and fighting abilities in their next three match series against Washington Nationals. Clinching a thrilling 5-4 victory in the opening game, Bruce Bochy’s side got off to a dream
start in the series. Although they were defeated in game two, the Giants once again bounced back brilliantly to improve their regular season win-loss record to 35-27.
Although the Giants had a tough series against the Cincinnati Reds and Oakland Athletics, they ended the month with a seven match winning streak, which included victories over Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians. It looked as if the Giants were beginning
to surge and show some dominance in the season.
