San Francisco Giants: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
August 2011 turned out to be a disastrous one for San Francisco Giants as they lost seven out of nine series in the month. Bruce Bochy and his men were hoping to turn things around with consistent performances in the month of September to make it to the
World Series for the second successive time. The Giants looked short of answers in their last series in August against the Chicago Cubs, damaging their win-loss record to 72-65.
Looking to get things back on track, the Giants made a decent start to a three match series against Arizona Diamondbacks, securing a comfortable 6-2 win in the opening encounter. Carlos Beltran was brilliant with the bat as he hit a two run homer among four
hits in first innings as the Giants rallied past Arizona to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
However, the Giants were unable to maintain their form in the following two games of the series as they suffered another humiliating series loss. In game two, they were outclassed in almost all departments of the game. In the third rubber game, the Giants
wasted a large number of opportunities to let the opposition secure a 2-1 series victory, which damaged their win-loss record to 73-67.
Looking to restore some of their lost pride, the Giants showed amazing character, fighting abilities and determination to win first two games of their next three match series against San Diego Padres. In game one, Pablo Sandoval homered twice and left hander
Madison Bumgarner struck-out a career high 12 in just over eight innings to help the Giants take a 1-0 lead in the series.
The leading NL West team went into this three-game series with their biggest deficit of the season after they had lost two of three to the Diamondbacks in a weekend series.
"I'm proud of how the guys bounced back," Bochy said. "They played so well today. I mean, that's as tough a loss as we've had all year. We played one of our better games. We did a great job of putting that game behind us."
The Giants failed to make the most of available opportunities in their next three match series against Los Angeles Dodgers, losing two of the three games which narrowed their chances to qualify for the post-season. Bruce Bochy and his men aimed to give better
results in the upcoming games to end the regular season on a high note.
Brushing San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies in their next two series, the Giants won seven straight games to give their fans something to cheer about. However, they were crushed in a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks as they
failed to qualify for the playoffs.
