San Francisco Giants: Spring Training results – MLB 2011
San Francisco Giants made a dream start to their Spring Training campaign as they emerged victorious in a nail biting 7-6 encounter against Arizona Diamondbacks on February 25, 2011. The win provided them with the much needed confidence to achieve similar
results in their upcoming games as well.
In their next game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants looked in supreme form as they secured a comfortable 8-3 win. The pitching department did a marvellous job to restrict the opposition to a very small total in hitting friendly conditions. Pablo
Sandoval, Mark DeRosa and Aubrey Huff combined for six of eleven hits and they batted in five RBIs to help the World Series Champions win their second straight game of the season.
The Giants paid the heavy price for their unforced errors in a closely contested 3-4 game against Arizona Diamondbacks. However, they were back to their very best in their next game against Milwaukee Brewers as they crossed the finish line in great style,
claiming an incredible 10-9 win over the split-squad Brewers. Mark DeRosa hit a tie-breaking home-run to help his side overcome a stiff challenge.
Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy was delighted with the way his team responded to difficult situations during the contest and he aimed to cheer up the fans with similar performances in the regular season as well.
After losing a thriller against Chicago Cubs 2-3 on March 1, the Giants regrouped themselves and they came up with an excellent performance against Arizona Diamondbacks to secure their fourth win of the season. Crushing the Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers
and Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants found themselves on a four match winning streak. Barry Zito gave up only one earned run on two hits and walked one on his second spring start to lift the Giants to a sensational 5-3 victory over the Dodgers.
"There's been some talk and things like that around camp. I don't know how much of that is based in truth, but at the end of the day this is the major leagues and you got to prove yourself every year," Zito said. "I've proven that I have good stuff in me,
but it's a matter of making that happen on the field. I'm taking this very seriously."
The Giants continued to impress the critics and they gave incredible performances against other strong teams such as Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels to end the season on a positive note. Overall, the Spring Training session proved
to be quite a decent one for Bruce Bochy and his men as they won 22 out of the 30 games they competed in.
