San Francisco Giants add Lou Piniella as an advisor – MLB News

Having recently retired as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, the San Francisco Giants have brought in Lou Piniella as an advisor to the team for the 2011 season. Although the deal has not been confirmed, many experts and sources have revealed that Piniella
will advise the Giants this year.
Piniella is a legend of baseball, as he was a part of the New York Yankees as they won the World Series in 1977 and 1978. He has played for different teams over his 20 year career in Major League Baseball. He had a batting average of .291 with 102 home-run
and managed to score an amazing 766 runs. Piniella played for 10 years with the Yankees and four years with the Kansas City Royals.
He also has the immense experience of managing five MLB teams since he retired as a player. Piniella has a brilliant record winning 1,845 games in 23 MLB seasons as a manager. He also led the Cincinnati Reds to the World Series as manager for the team. His
amazing record and vast experience in baseball make him a much sought after person in baseball by all teams.
It is reported that the Giants’ general manager Brian Sabean and Piniella were a part of the New York Yankees in the 80s. Sabean has contacted Piniella numerous times to join the Giants on any capacity. San Francisco is looking for Piniella to advise them
for the 2011 MLB regular season.
The team will get a tremendous boost if the Piniella has joined the Giants as an advisor. His tremendous experience can only benefit the team as they look towards Spring Training scheduled to start soon. The Giants are looking to defend their 2010 World
Series title this season and the likes of Piniella will be certainly useful.
The team understands the importance of Spring Training as it gives the perfect opportunity to finalise the rotation and line-up. Also, many of the younger players get some much needed playing time against some of the quality teams in the league.
