San Francisco Giants batter Houston Astros 8-4 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants defeated Houston Astros 8-4 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, August 30 at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
Giants’ entire batting line-up played well and kept the Astros' pitchers under pressure throughout the game.
Centre fielder Angel Pagan showed his class and batted well. He scored one run and smashed one hit on his five at-bats. He also ran for an RBI while his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .438.
Second baseman Marco Scutaro also did well on his five at-bats as he scored one run and smashed two hits along with a RBI. He played well and maintained his slugging percentage at .381.
Third baseman Pablo Sandoval added one run and smashed one hit along with two RBIs and proved one of the winning factors for the Giants.
Not only hitters, but the Giants' pitchers also did very well on the mound and edged past the Astros in style.
Ryan Vogelsong pitched six innings and received four runs and seven hits on his 3.02 ERA. He struck-out seven and proved too good for the Astros’ batters.
“I was just kind of off early with everything -- mechanically, tempo. Everything was just kind of out of whack, It wasn't really one thing that I changed to get going, it just kind of started falling into place," Vogelsong said.
Later Bochy said, "He kept grinding and that was a gritty effort, He knew that we needed some innings out of him and he kept going and ends up getting a win. That was a tough start the first three innings, Great comeback -- a couple of great comebacks here, They played us tough."
Guillermo Mota also did well for his team as he pitched one inning and did not receive any run or hit on his 5.11 ERA.
On the other hand, the Astros' pitcher Jordan Lyles could not hold onto his pitching as he was hit with three runs and seven hits in his five innings spell which eventually proved disastrous for his team in their humiliating defeat.
