San Francisco Giants beat Cliff Lee to go one up in World Series (Part 2)
The Texas Rangers were facing an opportunity that had never been made available to them before. The San Francisco Giants were somewhat on the same front. Their title bid was on the clock, after 8 years. The two teams were genuinely
on the back page of Major League Baseball, when the regular season began, but as time passed by, the ball clubs performed well in the duration to place themselves in the post season.
The Texas side had last been in the playoffs in 1999 and in that contest, they were done away by the New York Yankees. As a matter of fact, the Rangers never won a playoff series, before 2010. They had lost all of their competitions
to the Yanks, who they always met in the post season.
Unlike the past, the Texan side went out against the Tampa Bay Rays in the first series. Many spectators believed the East division champions would claim the ultimate win but it was the Rangers who blasted their opponents out of
the competition. However, their struggle in the playoffs got tougher as the Yankees greeted the side in the American League championship. The repeat of history wasn’t going to hold true and the West side champions took the throne from the former World Series
victors to go through the last stage of the competition.
The San Francisco Giants had a tale of their own to look back on. The team had last been in a bid for the World Series in 2002 and they lost the contest to the Anaheim Angels (Los Angeles Angels). In the regular, this year, the
San Diego Padres were leading the pact, but after beating them to the top, they made their way to the playoffs. The team had a hard time progressing but they went ahead against the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies to reach the final stage in Major
League Baseball.
Before the match between the two teams began on Wednesday, there were two things to consider. The starting Pitchers from both teams had to be adept and able in doing what they could on the field and, secondly, the hitting figures
in the team had to be pointed out.
To start things off, it is important to note who the strong batters in the two franchises are. Cody Ross, from the Giants recently won the Most Valuable Player award and given his recent form he was considered by baseball experts
to be the main man to count on when the match would be played in San Francisco, at the AT&T Park. The centre fielder had been averagely performing during the season and his batting average during the tenure was just .269. The strong hitter smashed 14 home
runs and batted in 65 runs in 153 game appearances.
However, one of his best displays in the year came during the 2010 post season. The 29 year old hitter, who was performing averagely in the season, came in to bag 4 home runs 7 Runs Batted In (RBI). In addition to that, 2 runs
were scored off the base. This performance earned the player a Most Valuable Player award in the national league championship. His form, at the moment, is considered a remedy to Cliff Lee’s pitching.
From the Rangers, Josh Hamilton makes his way to the top of the hitting danger’s list in the Giants’ books. The 29 year old peaked during the season and delivered 32 home runs and 100 RBIs. His batting average was on .359 before
the post season began. During the playoffs, the maestro was relentless in delivering the killing blows as his record depicts 4 home runs, 6 RBIs and 2 runs off the base. He was crowned the American League Most Valuable Player after the Texans took down the
Yankees in the 6th game of the American League Championship.
