San Francisco Giants beat Cliff Lee to go one up in World Series (Part 4)
The Texas Rangers are in a bid for the World Series title and on Wednesday they squared off with hosting San Francisco Giants in the AT&T Park. The two sides had come through a long lasting campaign in the post season and
now they were meeting in the final series to decide the winners of the ultimate trophy in Major League Baseball. Both ball clubs were in full swing and with a crowd of 43,601 supporters in the stands; the first encounter of the competition was going to be
a blockbuster event.
The pitchers starting for the bout were Cliff Lee (Rangers) and Tim Lincecum (Giants). Both figures were at the peak of their game and many believed the first match was going to dictate which side was the strongest in the
competition. Both pitchers were pitching blasters and they had a cumulative figure for strikeouts on ‘68’. The figure was impressive to say the least and as the game started, many viewers and spectators predicted a galore of swing and stare outs. The two ball
throwers were pitching for glory and as the campaign for the ultimate took a first gear push, the two got ready for the ultimate show down.
The Texans were the first ones to take the strike zone and Tim introduced them to the crowd while he prepared for his throws from the mound. The 26 year old started off in the 1st top inning with a
throw to Elvis Andrus. The hitter was straight on the mark as he swung and connected for a single towards the shallow left. Michael Young was the next man in and the baseman was given the privilege to lead the walk to the first base with hitting the ball with
his bat. With the first two men on the diamond, Josh Hamilton walked in to contribute to the team. He smashed a grounder shot to the first and got out, but in the process he moved the rest of the Rangers’ players further down the diamond.
With Andrus on third and Young on double, Vladimir Guerrero walked in to take up the vacant space in the strike zone, following Hamilton’s dismissal. The hard hitter didn’t waste the opportunity to go up in the bout and he
pulled an infield single to the first to get Elvis through for the more important run in the fixture. The damage had been done and in the playoffs, even a run was counted as a match winning point. The San Francisco side was trailing and it was only the first
inning. There was still more time left on the window and the hosts did nothing about that in the bottom 1st inning.
Texas wasn’t going to lay down low and with the arrival of the second inning, the team pushed for another run in the game. Bengie Molina, returned to his former home stadium to hear boos from the crowd. The veteran catcher
was traded to the Rangers by the Giants on July 1st and now the experienced player was back on the plate, but for another ball club. The veteran wasted no time and struck a single to the right. That brought on Mitch Moreland, but as
soon as he entered he went back. The hitter swung out to Lincecum and that brought on Cliff Lee.
The two pitchers were not facing each other in opposing roles and the veteran did little break his confidence, as he smashed Tim for a double to the centre. The hit brought on Andrus back in to the match and he was going
to make another mark on the game as he rocketed a sacrifice fly hit to the centre of the field, getting Molina through for his first run in the game.
The Texas side was doing well against the Giants and it looked like the Rangers were going to make the winning start in the series, by the end of the top 2nd inning.
