San Francisco Giants beat Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants beat Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday, May 21 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Buster Posey played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he hit a three run home run to left in the first inning. The Brewers fought back to level score at 3-3, thanks to Ryan Braun who homered to left centre in the eighth. Hector Sanchez hit a tiebreaking home run in the fourteenth to stun the home crowd and the Giants secured a thrilling win.
"You're hoping somebody pops one," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Hector is a good pick to get a pitch. That was what won the game for us tonight, a couple of home runs -- something we've been missing."
"I just looked for a fastball and tried to hit it hard," Sanchez said.
"He threw the ball great," Bochy added. "The 'pen stepped up. When you're on the road, you need that. You need it all the time, but you're living on the edge when it's a tie ballgame and you're on the road. Those guys really pitched great. All of them."
The Giants made the most of available opportunities in a game that turned out to be a nail biter at the end. Handling the pressure superbly, San Francisco outshined their rivals in advanced particulars of the game. With their win, the Giants also crossed the .500 win percentage mark and it will be interesting to see if the Giants can put up a similar show in the second game to devastate the Brewers at Miller Park.
Milwaukee, on the other hand, will have to work hard on weak areas of their game play to change the course of their destiny. After receiving a hammering at the hands of Minnesota Twins in their previous home series, they were hoping to salvage some of the lost pride. With the absence of Prince Fielder in the offensive lineup, they have struggled to give results on regular basis throughout this season.
