San Francisco Giants beat San Diego Padres 2-1 to tie series 1-all – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants overpowered the San Diego Padres 2-1 in the last game at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Wednesday, August 24 to end the two-game series at 1-all.
The defending World Series Champions are making a slow but strong comeback, as they have won the second of their last three games, including series avoiding win against the Houston Astros on Sunday, August 21.
Starter Tim Lincecum worked solid eight innings to get his twelfth win in 2011 regular season. The right-hand hurler punched-out seven batters and allowed only four hits to help the Giants grab their 69th win of the season. Santiago Casilla provided the
strong back up, throwing a scoreless ninth to get his first save of the season.
Lincecum also played part with the bat, as he touched a fastball to right-field for an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Chris Beltran launched a stunning 387-feet long one-run homer to improve his home run streak to 16. Beltran has also played 69 RBIs this season with.285 batting averages and .501 slugging averages.
Padres’ starter Tim Stauffer gave away two runs on six hits and got only one strike-out to bear his tenth loss of the season. He now has an 8-10 record with 3.42 ERA in 27 starts.
Josh Spence and Anthony Bass each remained scoreless over their short spells.
Oliver Hudson stroked a triple to right-field against Lincecum to shatter scoreless game for the Padres in the sixth inning. Besides this run, the Padres batting squad could not generate any considerable hits to change the tide of the game.
Orlando Cabrera and Pablo Sandoval were in a struggling position throughout the game and the Giants' manager Bruce Bochy was aware of the danger associated with their struggling batting line-up. Aubrey Huff and Cody Ross were also helpless to make any mark.
With some positive things to their belt, Giants will now host Houston Astros in a four-game series, starting from Thursday, August 25. Ryan Vogelsong will square off with the Astros Henry Sosa to improve his series to 11-3. However, Sosa will not be an easy
task to defeat, according to baseball experts.
