San Francisco Giants beaten by Miami Marlins 2-3 –MLB Update
San Francisco Giants were beaten by Miami Marlins 2-3 at the AT&T Park in San Francisco, California on Thursday, May 3 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Hanley Ramirez provided Miami with the perfect start as he grounded out to third in the first inning. Brett Hayes scored in the second to give the Marlins 2-0 lead. Shortstop Jose Reyes also played a key role in deciding the result of the encounter.
"To come here and win all three games was great for us," shortstop Jose Reyes said. "We're playing good as a team now. We're playing very good defense. A couple weeks ago we didn't play too good of defense. We just need to learn from the three wins we had here and continue to play together as a team. If we're able to do that, we're going to compete in our division."
The win will be of great importance for the Marlins who have emerged as a major force in MLB this season. Showing great determination, fighting spirit and mental strength, the Marlins outplayed their opponents in finer details of the game to improve their win-loss record to 11-14.
Marlins gave the Giants the taste of what they can expect to face throughout the season. Not many national baseball writers and analysts had predicted the Marlins would do so well in their first ever MLB season. In some ways, Marlins’ series sweep against the Giants is of great significance as it will provide the team with much needed confidence and self belief.
San Francisco, on the other hand, will be disheartened by the fact they disappointed their home crowd in all three games of the series. Marlins clinched a narrow 2-1 win in the opening game to surprise their opponents.
The second game was also played on a similar note and the Marlins handled the pressure absolutely superbly to take a decisive 2-0 lead in the series. It will be interesting to see if Miami can continue their impressive form throughout this month to become the leading National League team.
