San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey comes back in style – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey has returned with style after spending almost nine months in rehabilitation after suffering a severe ankle injury. He started off against the Cincinnati Reds and performed well in two innings behind the plate of 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training.
"It was fun," Posey said quietly. "I put in a lot of work to get back in the game. Even though it was two innings, it was nice to be out there. I definitely had some nerves - good nerves, though. It would have been interesting to see a ball in the gap, what the difference would have been, but it felt normal."
During the 2011 Major League season, Buster was injured and had to undergo a surgery on his ankle. Later the Giants management announced his non availability for rest of the season.
Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy was also happy to see his player back on the field. Later, after the game, he spoke to the reporters and told them about the jubilation he is feeling for Buster’s return.
"You could feel it," Bochy said, "the fans, the recognition he got going to the bullpen. You could feel the enthusiasm from the fans in the ballpark. You could feel it in the dugout, too."
Though Buster was unable to play a key role in the Giants last season’s standing, but on the whole and before his injury, he somewhat contributed in Giants’ slight reasonable performance. He remained cool at start of the season and until May 2011; he achieved good numbers with batting and with his behind the plate performances.
Buster went hitting at an average of .284 along with four home runs, 21 RBIs and .368 OBP. While his career hitting average of .294 along with 22 home runs, 88 RBIs and .353 OBP also makes him a true role player especially behind the plate.
Buster, whose three years’ of experience has put him amongst the best in the league, now looking more aggressively ahead of next Major League event and if things went right for him, he will play an active part in the Giants wins.
