San Francisco Giants crush Chicago Cubs 2-0 - MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants crushed the Chicago Cubs 2-0 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 3 at AT&T Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win, the Giants have also won the series 3-0 with one game to spare.
Barry Zito played enormously well for the Giants as he pitched with great precision and remained confident on the mound for 8.1 scoreless innings. He received four hits and struck-out five Cubs’ batters and never allowed Chicago to take control of the game.
Maintaining his 2.98 ERA, Zito on Sunday, earned his 150th career win.
"It feels good to have that support. The fans here are obviously coming out in droves and supporting us through thick and thin. It really fires us up. That's why we love to play at home so much. I tried to establish all my pitches early, As a hitter, when
you know a guy is throwing two, three, four pitches for strikes, it makes the at-bats difficult. So that was important to me." Zito said on his performance which certainly proved wonderful in Giants’ series win.
For the Cubs’, it was again a downhill ride. They so far have lost three consecutive games which clearly reminds them of their recent 12-game losing streak.
Cubs’ manager Dale Sveum looked much disappointed when he talked to the media telling his team’s performance, "It's a broken record, I don't know what to say to come up with something different to make it. ... Just frustrating, I mean, golly.”
Throughout the game, the Cubs remained under pressure and could not even score a single run which gave the clear advantage to the Giants who intelligently took the game away in the bottom of the eighth after scoring two runs with the help of Angel Pagan
and Melky Cabrera.
On the other hand, this loss now puts the Chicago Cubs at bottom in the National League Central Division. Cubs’ consistent poor play also threatens them with their chances to play in the next round with mere 18-36 win loss record along with .333 winning
percentage.
